But first, THREADS!
I planned this newsletter before Threads came out so bear with me as I switch gears.
ICYMI, Meta dropped their version of Twitter this week and to say that people are jumping on the bandwagon is an understatement. If you haven’t signed up yet, do it. You have nothing to lose. I think most of us have a bad habit of getting in our own head when it comes to social media strategy and the fear of doing things “wrong.”
You can put all of those fears aside on Threads because honestly, no one knows what they are doing. This is your chance to experiment and have a little fun! I don’t love how “social media experts” are already publishing guides for how to use Threads. IMO, it’s way too early to be taking advice from anyone. If you are desperate for some direction, I think following Instagram’s CEO, Adam Mosseri (@mosseri) on Threads is your best bet. Why not get direction from the team that created the app?
Now back to your regularly scheduled program…
It never ceases to amaze me what an endless blackhole the internet is. During a session of mindless scrolling, I stumbled upon CeilingFanCEO. The concept is simple. The account features countless videos of a CeilingFanCEO lip-syncing under a ceiling fan in his living room. Why this particular concept has gone viral is hard to say but I have to believe that an element of his success his consistency.
When you go to his page, you know exactly what you are going to get: lip-syncing ceiling fan videos. Followers are attracted to the consistency and commitment to one very specific niche. So attracted, in fact, that he has amassed millions of ceiling “fans.”
Take a deep dive into your own social media today and ask yourself, “Is there a common thread (no pun intended)?” And this common thread needs to be way more specific than your job. If you can’t find one, neither can your followers.
